The Center on the Environment believes...
Our nation has a collective responsibility to ensure that the world we leave for all our children will be healthy, beautiful, and sustainable. We see this goal as inextricably linked to the progressive goals of every other committee. Thus, we will actively search for clean and sustainable energy sources and systems. This means, among other things, innovation that encompasses new technology, increased pedestrian activity, and limitation of sprawl. Investment in sustainable energy is essential not only because it is good economic and diplomatic policy but also because it is necessary for our survival in the long term. We will seek ways to decrease pollution levels not only because current levels threaten all of our futures but also because they threaten our poorest communities in the present. Furthermore, we will take an active role in designing policy and pushing our government to embrace policy that works to preserve the beauty and vitality of our nation, by leaving some land untouched. Future communities should be able to enjoy and benefit from the natural parks and wonders that fill America, just as past generations have.
2005-2006
The Center on Environmental Policy produced a policy recommendation for minimizing urban storm water pollution in New Haven. Policy center representatives are currently collaborating with city representatives to collect funding for and implement this plan. In the spring, the center examined the prospect of farming salmon in the Connecticut River and provided a recommendation for state government officials.
